Gunner All-Weather Kennel Cover Review (Real Use, Not a Studio Unboxing)

I'm picky about dog gear for the same reason I'm picky about training: if it doesn't hold up in real conditions, I don't care what the marketing says.

This is just my real take on the Gunner All-Weather Kennel Cover: what it does, what it's actually for, and whether it's worth your money.

If you want the video version, here it is:

What it's actually for

A kennel is already solid. The cover is about controlling the environment around it. Wind, sideways weather, wet conditions, cold mornings, long drives. It's basically a layer that helps the kennel do its job without you improvising with towels and tarps every time.

Plus, a lot of dogs settle better when the kennel feels more like a den instead of a fishbowl.

What I like about it

  • Weather protection that works. It's built for the kennel, not some universal "kinda fits" solution.
  • Dogs actually settle better. Less visual scanning, more calm.
  • Controls drafts. Useful when weather's changing fast or you're parked in a windy spot.
  • It's simple. Put it on, use it, move on.

Who should get one

You'll actually use this if you:

  • Travel with your dog a lot
  • Train outside in real weather
  • Hunt or track and kennel between reps
  • Want a cleaner setup without improvising every time

Who can skip it

If your dog's mostly kenneled indoors, mild temps, short drives, no real weather exposure, you probably don't need it. It's a "solve a real problem" piece of gear, not a must-have.

Real talk

I like gear that reduces friction. This is one of those things that makes the whole kennel setup actually work in real conditions without becoming another complicated system you have to babysit.

Quick note on their fans

Since I made that video, I upgraded to the new Gunner fans. Wasn't a fan of the first model (you'll hear about it in the video), but the new one is solid. I actually like it now. Full review coming soon.

If your dog isn't solid in a kennel yet

We've got a free crate training course that walks through the whole thing:

Get the dog comfortable first, then the cover becomes a tool that actually works instead of a workaround.
